Winter Run

A few years ago I was a running fanatic. Before I started running I never thought that I would be able to run more than a few minutes at a time without collapsing into a heaving mess, but before I knew it I was running 5..10..15..30..45 minutes at a time and… enjoying it? Loving it? Smiling while running my heart out at -15C weather at 11:00 at night? Yep.

Like I said, this was a few years ago, and unfortunately after moving to Austria and getting lazy, it didn’t last. Since then I have had spurts of being extremely lazy (not running at all), running a little, running a lot, back to not running at all, but luckily I’ve gotten back into it and am now running regularly a few times a week for about 7km. (I got stuck in a rut in December and didn’t run at all, but luckily I haven’t lost my fitness level)

Today however was my first real cold winter run in years… and it was pretty enjoyable!

I track my progress with the Bridge to 10k iPhone app. It tracks your speed, distance, tracks your run on Google maps, gives you cues when to run, when to walk, when you have completed your workout.. pretty cool!

My next question is… will I be ready to run the Vienna City Half Marathon in April? It is 12 weeks away, and I think I will go for it. I can run 6km comfortably now.. and with a little discipline I think I could do it (21km). It would give me a concrete goal to work towards and it would be such a great feeling to actually do it.
