Teach Yourself books have awesome covers

Strudel

While browsing around Amazon yesterday, I noticed how some of the Teach Yourself German language series book covers were really cool and creative! Usually, I find that language learning book covers can be quite ordinary looking. They often have just text, or pictures of random things or smiling people one them that really have nothing to do with the language. Seriously, I think over 50% of language books have pictures of random people smiling. (See examples 1,2,3,4)
Whose idea was that anyway?

I love the covers of these Teach Yourself German books because they show real German, not weird stock photos of random people smiling… For example, the blue road sign with Graz, Linz, Eisenstadt is the one that I follow to get home to Eisenstadt when I’m in Vienna! Or the “Parken verboten!” sign which you will see überall in German speaking countries. And who doesn’t love Apfelstrudel? :)

When I was at home in October I picked up the Vocabulary book with the door handle that says “Frei” on it pretty much just because I thought that the picture was so cool. (and well, not to mention that the Teach Yourself series is actually really good!) Who would’ve thought to put a picture of a door handle to a German bathroom on the cover of their vocabulary book? :)

Here are most of the covers of their series of German books, there are a few more out there (not to mention their equally awesome covers of their other language learning books, but so far I’ve only really seen the German ones!) So go have a look if you’re in need of some new language learning material!
